Employment by the Government

A veterinarian who possesses a contract for employment to work as a veterinarian by either the Crown, the BC provincial government, or an equivalent public body is eligible to apply for registration in the Public Sector class.

The purpose of this class of registration is to provide a route to registration for veterinarians who do not possess a Certificate of Qualification but whom a government body has determined to be qualified to work for them in a specified role within the field of veterinary medicine. Registration in the Public Sector class does NOT require a Certificate of Qualification, but the applicant must provide proof of their government employment as a veterinarian.

Because Public Sector registration does not require a CQ, a Public Sector registrant’s practice privileges in BC are restricted to the scope and duration of their government contract; and they must not provide veterinary services directly to the BC public.

For more information about eligibility for Public Sector registration, please see the Registration Committee policy: “Eligibility for Public Sector Registration
