CVBC was established in 2010 through the transformation of the BC Veterinarian Medical Association into the College. The College is governed by an 8- member Board of Directors (the Council) comprised of four veterinarians and four public members and is responsible for ensuring that the public and animals of BC are served by a competent and ethical profession. CVBC regulates approximately 2,600 veterinarians (registrants) and has an annual budget of approximately $3.8M, $1.2M in portfolio investments, and a subsidiary captive insurance company.
