Bylaw & Ethics Seminar and Examination

All applicants (except for TEMP applicants) must complete the CVBC’s Bylaw & Ethics Seminar and achieve a passing score on the Bylaw & Ethics Exam.

Both seminar and exam are hosted on the CVBC’s Learning Hub and are made available ‘on-demand’ for applicants to complete at their convenience during their application process.

Access to the seminar and exam will be made available once the CVBC has received (at minimum) all of the following:

  • completed & notarized Application for Registration Form,
  • certified copies of government-issued ID (x2),
  • payment of the application fee, and
  • payment of the bylaw exam fee.

Seminar:

The seminar must be completed before the applicant will be able to progress to the exam. The seminar is a series of 3 webinar modules (30 minutes, 30 minutes and 1 hour in length) to be completed in sequence, with post-module quizzes that must be successfully completed before the applicant may progress to the next module.

Once all seminar modules are completed, a certificate of completion will be issued and the applicant will be granted access to the exam.

Examination:

The examination deals with the regulations established in the BC Veterinarians Act, and the CVBC’s bylaws and standards.

For the examination, applicants should familiarize themselves with the following reference materials that are published on the CVBC’s website here (“Legislation, Standards & Policies”):

  • Bylaws

The exam is open book – applicants are permitted to consult the
Veterinarians Act and bylaws throughout the exam.   The test consists of collection of multiple choice/true-false questions.  A candidate has 24 hours to complete the exam (clock starts when they begin the exam).  Results will be relayed by the office within 3 business days.

In preparation for their entry to practice once CVBC registration is granted, applicants should also plan to familiarize themselves with the standards, guidelines and policies that are also posted on the website, as all registrants must be familiar with and adhere to procedures and rules approved by Council.
