Legal Status to Work as a Veterinarian in Canada

The CVBC registration bylaws require that an applicant provide proof that they either:

  1. Are a Canadian citizen (eg. Birth Certificate, Passport, Certificate of Citizenship)
  2. Are a Permanent Resident of Canada (Permanent Resident Card, Confirmation of Permanent Residency), or
  3. Possess a legal entitlement to work as a veterinarian in Canada (eg. a work permit)

The CVBC understands that some international applicants who are applying for a Canadian work permit may be required by Immigration, Refugee & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to provide confirmation of their eligibility to work in their profession in Canada before IRCC will issue a work permit, yet the CVBC cannot grant registration if the applicant cannot provide proof of possessing a legal entitlement to work as a veterinarian in Canada.  If an applicant finds themselves in this paradox, they are encouraged to contact the CVBC’s Registration Department to discuss their options.
